- Keep “Don't repeat names” on to call everyone once before starting over.
- Save one list per class with New list; it is remembered in this browser.
Ways teachers use a random student picker
- Cold calling that feels fair: students see the pick isn’t you choosing.
- Choosing who presents first, who hands out materials, or who leads the line.
- Exit tickets: pick three students to share their answer before the bell.
- Names never leave your computer: read how Classroom Tools Hub handles student privacy.
- Need teams instead? The same lists work in the random group generator.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I stop the same student being picked twice?
- Keep “Don't repeat names” ticked. Each picked name moves to the Already picked list until everyone has had a turn. Press Start over to put every name back.
- Are my class lists saved?
- Yes, in this browser. Your lists are still there the next time you open Classroom Tools Hub on the same computer. Make one list per class or period with New list.
- Where are student names stored?
- Only in your browser’s local storage. Classroom Tools Hub has no accounts and no server that receives names, so nothing leaves your device.
- Can I use the name picker on an interactive whiteboard?
- Yes. Open it in the board’s browser, press Full screen and tap Pick a name. The buttons are large enough for a finger or a pen.
- Is this like a spinning name wheel?
- Same idea, faster: press Pick a name and one student comes up big on the board, with no repeats until everyone has had a turn.
- Is the pick really random?
- Each pick uses your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, so every remaining name has the same chance.
