How to use it

  1. Choose a preset (1 to 30 minutes) or type minutes and seconds.
  2. Press Start or the space bar. The red disc shrinks as time runs out.
  3. Press Full screen (or F) to fill the projector screen.
  4. Pause, add a minute, or reset at any time. A chime plays at zero.

Why a visual timer works in the classroom

Young students can’t always read a clock, but every child can see a disc getting smaller. A visual timer turns “five more minutes” into something concrete: students pace themselves, transitions get faster, and you repeat yourself less.

  • Transitions and clean-up: 2 minutes on the board ends the “are we done yet?” questions.
  • Stations and centers: run 10 to 15 minutes, then rotate when the chime plays.
  • Tests and quizzes: turn the sound off and leave the timer in full screen.
  • Group work: pair the timer with the classroom noise meter so students see both the time left and the volume.
  • Brain breaks: a 3-minute break with a visible end is easier to bring back from.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make the classroom timer full screen?
Click Full screen under the timer or press F. The disc and the digits grow to fill the projector screen. Press Esc to leave full screen.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer counts from the clock, not from animation frames, so it stays exact while you open slides or another tab. The tab title shows the time left.
Can I add time while it is running?
Yes. Press +1 min at any moment, even while the timer runs. Use −1 min to take a minute away.
Is there a sound when time is up?
A short three-note chime plays when the timer reaches zero. Untick “Sound at the end” for a silent timer during tests.
What timer lengths work best for classroom activities?
Short, visible blocks keep students on task: 1 to 2 minutes for transitions and clean-up, 3 to 5 minutes for think-pair-share, 10 to 15 minutes for centers, 20 to 30 minutes for independent work.
